On July 4, four pro-Palestinian protesters scaled the roof of Australia's Parliament House in Canberra, unfurling banners with the slogans "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free", and "No peace on stolen land." The protest, organized by the Renegade Activists group, aimed to draw attention to alleged Israeli war crimes in Gaza and accused the Australian government of complicity due to its alliance with the United States.

The demonstration lasted about an hour before the protestors were removed by police. The activists also delivered a speech via megaphone, criticizing Australia's support for Israel and vowing to continue resisting what they described as "US imperial, hegemonic, and capitalist interests." The protest led to a temporary lockdown of parts of Parliament House, with security advising the public to avoid the area around the main entrance.

The incident sparked significant political backlash, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and other leaders condemning the breach of parliamentary security. Albanese emphasized that while peaceful protest is a fundamental part of democracy, this action was not peaceful and undermined the democratic process. Milton Dick, the Speaker of the House, ordered an investigation into how the protesters managed to access the roof and called for those involved to face the full force of the law.
